Powered By Stories

For better or worse, the stories we believe about ourselves determine our actions. Your decisions, to a great extent are powered by your stories.

I did not grow up learning in the best schools. I barely graduated when it was all said and done. I never went to college. Learning to read and the fact that I enjoy reading helped me in life more than any classroom lesson.

Stories especially, have always had a way of captivating me.

Stories have a remarkable impact on the brain. There are those that we consciously absorb but there are so many more that are being written in the subconscious brain- and before we’re born.

I had a session with a client recently, a coach. She was struggling with putting herself out there and went on and on about content and marketing plans etc. the more I listened, the more I felt that her need to have everything “in order” was a delaying tactic. She had not invited anyone to a call in months.

After some time I nudged deeper. “What do you really need in order to make money as a coach? I asked“To invite people that become clients .” She said. “What is stopping you?” 🤔

And then it happened. 💥 Tears welled up in her eyes, her voice cracked…🥺This beautiful, gifted, strong woman melted down as she told me about the toxic relationship she had with her mother as a child.

The stories she has told herself about never being good enough, never measuring up, doing it wrong, were sabotaging her every move.

I honored her pain, (I have been on both sides of this pain though not for the same reason!) and then invited her into a visualization exercise. One of my favorite sayings is “Be who you needed when you were younger.”

That is what we did together. Her body language told me when she was feeling a shift. A smile softly formed, she relaxed a bit more in her chair.

As she opened her eyes, I asked her how she was feeling in the present moment, compared to how she felt when we began.

Her eyes sparkled again, her shoulders loosened and micro expressions all agreed.

She felt freed of the stories that had kept her down and held her back. 💪🏻

The stories you tell yourself and what you choose to believe about them can empower and uplift- or they can inhibit and wound.

As a coach who is helping new coaches, my client now sees her struggle as opportunity to empathize with coaches whose stories are sabotaging their success too. This insight will help with her content strategy moving forward!

If you are a business owner, your business is a reflection of you. For better or worse, the building blocks on which your business is built, are the stories you believe about yourself and your worth.

No matter who you are or what title you hold or role you play, your life is a mirror of the stories you believe about yourself.

You are priceless simply because you are a sentient soul. The Creator has stamped your DNA with his signature. You are worthy. Full stop. Do you feel that in your core? I hope you do. Are there moments I forget or do not feel it? Abso-freaking-lutely.😅

I choose to practice anchoring myself in this truth every day. Self worth is an inside job, as happiness is.

If you are feeling stuck perhaps it is time to revisit which stories are informing your present moment.

If you would like support with that, reach out. Let’s talk.
